My holistic method of dance instruction presents a wealth of material on this beautiful art form. You get more than steps and combinations - you see the "big picture" of belly dance, and develop a depth of appreciation and understanding of the finer points of our art.
All of my classes follow a professional dance studio format, featuring warmup, drills, combinations and/or choreography. Each class covers elements of both Oriental "Raks Sharki" and Tribal Odyssey Bellydance™.
The foundation technique is Egyptian-style Oriental Dance, including Middle Eastern folkloric style such as Raks Beledi and Assaya. We also explore the realm of American belly dance incorporating theatrical props like Fan Veils, Swords, and Candles.

If you love the idea of "playing zills", sagat or finger cymbals, it's easier than you may think. My playing skill can be seen in my Finger Cymbal Solo video (courtesy of Serpentine Communications channel); and I've developed not one but two different ways to teach this skill. The traditional method is outlined in free lessons on my YouTube channel, Dance Eternal.
But most of my students learn via Tribal Odyssey dancing; listening to others play as we dance together makes learning easier than ever.
This "follow the leader" format also benefits students by helping them develop focus, awareness, and graceful transitions while dancing. It's like a team-building experience. Rather than competing with one another, we help each other grow in skills and confidence.

My tested and effective teaching method was reviewed and certified in 2008 by the National Association for Teacher Certification in Middle Eastern Dance. My holistic approach to Middle Eastern "belly" Dance will help you explore your abilities to the fullest, and develop an inner strength that enriches your life even outside the classroom.
Yours in dance,
Anthea "Kawakib"
